Founded by the Vincentians in 1898, DePaul University takes its name from the 17th-century French priest Saint Vincent de Paul. In 1998, it became the largest Catholic university by enrollment in the United States. Following in the footsteps of its founders, DePaul places special emphasis on recruiting first-generation students and others from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The John Horan Endowed Scholarship Program: Available only to students from North Lawndale and covers all costs of enrollment at DePaul. An “away” experience, but close-by: DePaul’s main campus in Lincoln Park provides an urban learning experience with support of a diverse community, plus easy access to cultural institutions, the lakefront, and transportation.

“I chose DePaul for the opportunity to experience Chicago in new ways. I live and study at a top university that’s diverse and welcoming– and I can still make it home on Sundays for a mom-cooked meal.” Danielle Nolen; NLCP 2019, DePaul University 2024
