Founded by the Vincentians in 1898, DePaul University takes its name from the 17th-century French priest Saint Vincent de Paul. In 1998, it became the largest Catholic university by enrollment in the United States. Following in the footsteps of its founders, DePaul places special emphasis on recruiting first-generation students and others from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Innovation: Recognized nationally for most innovative improvements to curriculum, faculty, students, campus life, technology and facilities
Arts: Named as a top U.S. school for filmmaking, graphic design, and game design
Business: Ranked among the country’s best undergrad programs for business and entrepreneurship
The John Horan Endowed Scholarship Program: Available only to students from North Lawndale and covers all costs of enrollment at DePaul. The scholarship also funds a graduate assistant in DePaul’s Office of Multicultural Student Success and provides all its scholars with access to peer mentoring, laptops and support for internships and study abroad experiences.
An “away” experience, but close-by: DePaul’s main campus in Lincoln Park provides an urban learning experience with support of a diverse community, plus easy access to cultural institutions, the lakefront, and transportation.
“I chose DePaul for the opportunity to experience Chicago in new ways. I live and study at a top university that’s diverse and welcoming– and I can still make it home on Sundays for a mom-cooked meal.” Danielle Nolen; NLCP 2019, DePaul University 2024
