Founded in 1833, Kalamazoo College is among the 100 oldest colleges and universities in the US. Since 1962, Kalamazoo College has offered a nationally-recognized curriculum called the Kalamazoo Plan, an undergraduate experience of rigorous liberal arts scholarship and opportunities for experiential education in both domestic and international settings; 70% of Kalamazoo graduates have studied abroad.
For more than 50 years, Kalamazoo College has been the gold standard in study-abroad.
Most K students study abroad during their junior year. They integrate into the local culture and language, often as part of the daily lives of a host family or with local students in the dorm. Kalamazoo offers eligible students the opportunity to challenge their assumptions about themselves and other cultures in a rigorous experiential education environment. Seventy percent of Kalamazoo College students participate in programs of varying lengths, academic emphasis and locations. Kalamazoo College sends students to 56 programs in 29 countries on six continents.
“I like Kalamazoo because they know how to provide spaces for POC students, and the K-Plan encourages students to explore and learn new things. Smaller classes let me be more engaged and be able to have my questions answered.” Marquisha James; NLCP 2020, KC 2024
